Erin — Invergrove Heights, MN

ErinMy name is Erin, I am 23 years old, and I am from Invergrove Heights, MN. When I was eleven years-old I was involved in a car accident. I started feeling back pain almost immediately after the wreck, but I did not go to the doctor until a month later. I saw Dr. Ensor Transfeldt. He explained that at my age the best thing to do would be to watch my back and see if my disc degenerated further.

Dr. Transfeldt put me in a back brace and for a while I was fine. From the time I was eleven until I was 19 I had a little physical therapy. The back pain returned my senior year in high school, and I was not able to do a lot of things. I would get sharp pains in my legs, and my lower back was very sore.

Because of the increase in my symptoms, when I turned 19, Dr. Transfeldt decided it wad time for me to have surgery. He informed me of a clinical study regarding a new back surgery using INFUSEŽ Bone Graft with the LT-CAGEŽ Device. Dr. Transfeldt discussed other surgical options with me, but my mother, who was also in the car accident, had broken her neck and when she had her surgery the physician took bone out of her hip and she said it was painful. So, the new surgery was a good option for me because it did not require Dr. Transfeldt to take bone out of my hip. He waited until I was older to perform surgery in the event my back healed as my body matured.

I had the surgery and I was in the hospital for around five days. It took me about two months to recover. I started noticing a difference in pain soon after surgery. It takes two years to completely heal. Now, everything feels fine. Overall, it was a positive experience.
