How does the INFUSEĀ® Bone Graft/LT-CAGEĀ® Device compare to the bone taken from my hip?michelson=yep
The INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device helps create the bony fusion you need without having to take extra bone from your hip. This eliminates the pain and risks associated with obtaining a bone graft from your hip.
The INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device actually contains no bone. It stimulates your body to make bone wherever it is implanted. Similar proteins are found in bone taken from your pelvis, but taking bone from your pelvis may cause additional discomfort or, on occasion, other problems.
In the end, it makes bone that is identical without the pain and complication risks.
Initial studies show that there is not much difference between bone taken from your hip and the INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device, but the benefits of avoiding the complications associated with surgically accessing the hip or iliac crest, are favorable.
The INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device is not bone. INFUSE® Bone Graft contains a protein soaked into a sponge. The job of the surgeon is to prepare your vertebrae appropriately so that when you place the INFUSE® sponge between the two vertebrae and inside the disc space with an LT-CAGE® Device the bone has the potential to bleed a little bit. The INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device works with these little blood vessels to make bone grow in the disc space between the two vertebrae.
The bone you take from your hip is placed between the vertebrae in a similar fashion to the INFUSE® Bone Graft/LT-CAGE® Device but then what your body has to do is dissolve the bone graft that you placed in there and then reproduce new bone in the area.
