New Weblog Offers 'Inside View' Of Spine Surgery And The Medical Device Industry

Want to keep up with the latest news and views about spine surgery and the medical device industry from someone with first-hand knowledge, both as an industry executive and recent surgical patient?

Then check out Medtronic's new Weblog, or "blog", called InsideSpine!

Accessible online at www.insidespine.com, InsideSpine is an online venue where you can find comprehensive, up-to-date information about Medtronic's spinal business and see what those "in the know" have to say about the latest developments in surgical technology and the critical issues facing spinal orthopedics today.

Jill Serbousek, an executive with Medtronic's Spinal and Biologics business and a 17-year veteran of the medical device industry, is the host of InsideSpine. In the blog, Jill shares her insights on today's hot topics and interviews others with expertise in the field.

"I find that some of the difficult questions that patients ask can be simple for those in the industry to answer," says Serbousek, who also recently underwent spinal surgery herself for repair of a herniated disc. "And, having been a patient, hopefully I will be able to help others with some of the struggles they are going through."

Current blog entries highlight Jill's personal experience with spine surgery, the results of the recent Spine Patient Outcomes Research Trial (SPORT), and even how spine surgery helped one active young teacher achieve her dreams!

Future entries will address issues related to innovations in modern spinal therapy, clinical trials and research studies, regulatory compliance and the FDA approval process, industry coverage by the media and reimbursement. Did you know that access to health care might not be as safe as you think? Then stay tuned – one of the blog's most frequently addressed topics will be preserving patients' access to modern, high-tech spinal treatment options.

Visitors to InsideSpine can also look forward to Jill's interviews with experts representing all aspects of the medical device field, including spine surgeons, physical therapists, R&D professionals, regulatory and government agency representatives and reimbursement specialists, just to name a few. Interested in a spine surgeon's perspective of the first round of SPORT data? Go to InsideSpine and see what Dr. John Peloza of the Center for Spine Care in Dallas, TX, had to say.

Like other blogs on the Web, InsideSpine.com will be regularly updated with new entries. "Check out the site frequently to find out what we're talking about," Jill says.

Due to FDA regulations, however, readers will not be able to post comments, nor ask specific questions regarding their own medical conditions. "Those should go to your doctor, Jill explains. "But, I might be able to shed light on the technology that may help you with your decision, and you can email me and let me know your thoughts.

"I look forward to hearing from you!"
